NJ Jewish AG's Case Attacking Pregnancy Care Centers Heard at SCOTUS Today

Today, we at the Jewish Pro-Life Foundation feel guilty and ashamed as SCOTUS hears the case, First Choice Women’s Resource Centers v. Platkin.

Who is AG Matthew Platkin?

Matthew Platkin, the Jewish Attorney General who was much heralded by Jewish organizations and Jewish influencers in New Jersey when he was sworn into office in November 2022, brought his case against pregnancy care centers a year later, in November 2023.

According to Liberty Council, the U.S. Supreme Court will hear oral arguments in First Choice Women’s Resource Centers v. Platkin on December 2, 2025, a case challenging a broad investigative subpoena infringing on the First Amendment rights of a pro-life pregnancy center.

New Jersey Attorney General Matthew Platkin claims without any evidence that First Choice Women’s Resource Centers, a religious nonprofit, provides “false and misleading information” to women and has demanded it hand over advertising materials on the Abortion Pill Reversal (APR) protocol, donor lists, personnel files, and other operational records spanning the last 10 years.

First Choice, represented by Alliance Defending Freedom, asks SCOTUS to resolve a technical but urgent constitutional question of whether a state subpoena that chills First Amendment rights must first be litigated in state court before seeking federal court relief.

Why Subpoena a Pregnancy Care Center?

The technical elements of the case can be confusing to nonlawyers, but the reasons for the initial subpoena are clear. AG Matthew Platkin used his political power to attack a pregnancy care center (PRC) that provides life sustaining help to vulnerable women and children. PRCs are funded through private donations and Mr. Platkin used his office to bully the center to disclose donor, personnel, and operational records spanning a decade.

The center came under fire because it advertises abortion pill reversal (APR) services, directly competing with abortion pill provider profiteers. APR saves many babies from the abortion pill by delivering life saving hormones that neutralize the effects of the pill. Women seek APR to save their unborn babies after they take the abortion pill and then realize they made a terrible mistake. APR is safe and effective. It is not misleading to advertise it honestly.

This high profile case puts a spot light on the long standing adversarial position between Jewish abortion activists and Christian pro-life advocates. Since NY passed legal abortion legislation in 1970 with the help of compromised, confused Jewish politicians, the contentious fight has escalated in Washington DC and state houses across America.

Today, we see the result. A high profile Jewish politician in a state with, again, a high concentration of Jews, who sold his soul to the abortion industry for political gain. We're deeply ashamed that Jewish groups in NJ stay silent as a Jewish public safety officer allows himself to be used by baby killers to attack good people whose righteous mission saves women and children from death and despair. They do absolutely no harm that would justify legal investigation.

Christian pro-life views spring from Jewish biblical truths that affirm and sanctify human life from conception. Jews everywhere ought to support pro-life activities and endorse politicians who protect these activities. We must oppose and denounce Jewish officials like Mr. Platkin who use their office to advance a culture of death.

We remind the Jewish AG and our Jewish brothers and sisters in the Garden State of the words of the Almighty in Jeremiah 22:3. Will you stay silent or will you condemn AG Platkin and pressure him to withdraw his case?
