Parsha Ve'eira: A Study in Denial of Evidence

Our Torah portion this week, Shemot (Exodus) Parsha Va'eira 6:2 - 9:35, presents a study of the mental illness called denial of evidence. Pharaoh refuses to acknowledge the signs that he demands from Moses as miracles to be heeded emanating from a Divine source to be feared. Devastating consequences to Pharaoh's reign and country result from his persistent denial of evidence. The lesson learned is that we deny obvious miracles at our peril.

We are told that God 'hardens Pharaoh's heart' in order to demonstrate His many miracles that will convince the Hebrews to abandon paganism, not only physically through exodus, but spiritually through a conversion to belief in an incorporeal, omnipresent God.

This miracle happens thousands of times a day around the globe. It is rendered in videos like this and ultrasounds, and obvious in the birth of human beings. Denying this miracle supports delusional thinking that produces death and misery revealed as plagues suited to our time. It can't end well for the disbelievers......
